One of the more impressive things about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is just how slim it is, at a mere 4.2mm thick when unfolded. It’s so slim in fact that the much-rumored foldable iPhone might not be able to match it, despite this device probably not launching until 2026 at the earliest – by which point Samsung might have an even thinner foldable.

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 seems to be thinner than the HONOR Magic V5, at least based on these two experiments.

In the wake of several years where Samsung had decidedly changed very little in the way of device thickness, the company has officially reached a halfway point. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is half the size of the original Galaxy Fold, and that’s something to celebrate.

Samsung has made significant upgrades to its foldables rather than incremental changes like it did last year with the Galaxy Z Fold 6. The newly announced Galaxy Z Fold 7 is a big step forward from its predecessor and easily one of the best book-style foldable phones you can buy right now.

The Z Fold 7 is overall slightly taller and wider than its predecessor, which results in bigger screens. The new foldable has a 6.5-inch AMOLED Full HD Plus (2,520x1,080 pixels) cover display, up from the 6.3-inch AMOLED Full HD Plus (2,376x968 pixels) cover display on the Z Fold 6. Both models have 1 to 120Hz variable refresh rates.
