Despite parting ways with multiple veterans this offseason, the Utah Jazz reportedly aren't planning to move on from star forward Lauri Markkanen.
But instead, it was Riley Minix who called game on the other end. Minix caught an inbounds pass and hit a fadeaway contested bucket from the short corner to lift the Spurs to the win — which sparked a huge celebration on the floor in Las Vegas.
"The Utah Jazz start the 2025-26 campaign with the lowest win total (18.5) in the league. It marks the lowest NBA preseason over/under since the Philadelphia 76ers had a preseason win total of 15 in 2014-15," wrote Shane Jackson of BetMGM.
In 1984, Layden was named the NBA’s Coach of the Year and the NBA’s Executive of the Year as the Jazz finished first in the Midwest Division. That year, he drafted the NBA’s all-time assist and steal leader, John Stockton; Layden drafted the league’s third-place all-time scorer, Karl Malone, the very next year.
Layden pulled off a rare feat in 1984 when he was honored with a trifecta of awards: he was awarded the NBA Coach of the Year award, was named Executive of the Year, and won the J. Walter Kennedy Citizenship Award, which is given to a player, coach, or staff member who showed "outstanding service and dedication to the community."
