Gov. Gretchen Whitmer signed into law Friday a bill that authorizes the state of Michigan to transfer the Detroit Detention Center to the city.

The Detroit Detention Center will now be fully staffed and managed by the city of Detroit, freeing up staff and resources for the Michigan Department of Corrections.
