First responders rescued dozens of people from inside an assisted living facility where nine people were killed.

River Fire Chief Jeffrey Bacon deferred all questions about the fire investigation to the Massachusetts Department of Fire Services.

You could have had 100 firefighters show up on that scene and it wouldn’t have been enough,” Jeffrey Bacon said at a news briefing outside the fire department’s headquarters Tuesday.

"He has a financial obligation to these people, and we're going to see to the best of our ability that he does what he's supposed to do for them because these people were thrown into the abyss," the mayor said.
