President Donald Trump wants the Cleveland Guardians to go back to their former name. Here's why the city's MLB team changed it in the first place.

On July 3 MLB announced that Ortiz in agreement with the MLB Players Association was being placed on a non-disciplinary leave of absence through the All-Star break while it investigated him. It was later confirmed by league sources that Ortiz was being investigated for his alleged involvement in gambling while he was pitching for the Guardians.

CLEVELAND — Major League Baseball and the player’s association have agreed to extend Cleveland Guardians pitcher Luis Ortiz’s paid administrative leave through Aug. 31 “while MLB continues its investigation,” the league announced Friday.

The Cleveland Guardians are in desperate need of some offensive momentum and firepower. They have time to address that before the trade deadline, but that doesn’t seem to be the course they will take.
