The healthcare conglomerate said it has now begun complying with formal criminal and civil requests from the Justice Department.

The U.S. Department of Justice is conducting both civil and criminal investigations into the Medicare billing practices of UnitedHealth Group, one of the largest health insurance providers in the country.

UnitedHealth Group disclosed Thursday it is under criminal and civil investigation by the Department of Justice, according to ABC News. The company stated that it had reached out “proactively” to the DOJ following media reports about a federal investigation into its Medicare practices.
