Matthew Louis Gaetz II (/ ɡ eɪ t s / GAYTS; born May 7, 1982) is an American politician who served as the U.S. representative for Florida's 1st congressional district from 2017, until his resignation November 13, 2024, when president-elect Donald Trump announced Gaetz as his nominee for United States attorney general.
